Kein Artikel über die Apple Watch

Sondern über das neue MacBook. Denn es ist die eigentliche Neuigkeit der gestrigen Produktpräsentation. Weil es zeigt, dass Apple nicht nur die alten Kernprodukte nicht vernachlässigt, sondern auch auf erstaunliche Weise weiterentwickelt – zum Beispiel, indem das neue Gerät auf einen Lüfter verzichtet.

Johanna Stern teilt im Wall Street Journal Apples Behauptung, das neue 13-Zoll-Notebook zeige die Zukunft der Kategorie Laptop. Der Grund: Es hat zugunsten von Leichtigkeit, Kompaktheit, Tastaturkomfort und Akkulaufzeit – neben einem Kopfhörerausgang – lediglich einen einzigen Anschluss: für Daten und Strom gleichermaßen. Stern:

„We don’t need all those other ports, Apple says. We are living in a wireless world now, where we can connect most of our peripherals without cords.“

Wodurch freilich der stolperfreundliche Mag-Safe-Anschluss entfällt und ein überteuerter Adapter hinzugekauft werden muss. Großer Aufreger! Aber nur für kurze Zeit, glaubt Stern:

„Like the first Air, this is Apple’s attempt to reimagine the laptop all over, now for the smartphone and tablet age. Based on my short time with the machine, I think Apple will turn the laptop industry on its head (again), but just like with the original Air, it may be moving too fast for some.“

Und Blogger John Gruber fügt hinzu:

„Ports are going the way of optical discs and hard drives.“
